Learn to play roller derby with GRD!
Roller derby is a fast-paced, tactical, full contact sport played on roller skates. There is absolutely no skating experience required to sign up – even if you’ve never had skates on your feet before, our 15 week course will teach you all the basics from standing up, stopping, skating styles, jumping, backwards skating and more!
The first session is free, followed by a three week trial period which costs £20. Thereafter, membership fees are £35/month for those in employment, and £15/month for job-seekers/those receiving benefits. There are twice weekly sessions, on Sunday afternoons and Tuesday evenings. Sunday sessions will be at the Arc: Health & Fitness and all Tuesdays at The Firhill Complex.
You MUST be 18 years or over to take part, and you will need to bring your own skates and safety equipment (mouth guard, helmet, knee & elbow pads, wrist guards) to attend the session. A limited amount of loan kit will be available for the intake day only, please contact us at email@example.com to see if we have anything available in your size. If you have any questions at all about the course/roller derby/where to buy skates etc, send us a message on the main Glasgow Roller Derby Facebook page, or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
***The Glasgow Roller Recruits Program is open to everyone over the age of 18, of ALL genders, interested in playing or refereeing roller derby. We are a WFTDA league and comply with their gender policy (https://resources.wftda.org/womens-flat-track-derby-association-statement-about-gender/) upon completion of the basic skating course.***
